MSC Cruises presented the 140 destinations that can be reached in 2023 and the new Euribia ready to set sail for the fjords in full respect of the ecosystem. By 2050, the goal is zero emissions.
MSC: in 2023 worldwide with 22 ships
Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, but also Japan, Israel, the Caribbean. MSC presented the travel schedule for 2023, in the name of fun and sustainability. The company’s ships will be 22 protagonists of the itineraries that will reach 140 destinations, hosting 75,000 passengers a day, 70 million meals served in a season. From short weekend cruises to 121-day round-the-world cruises. “What we are presenting today is the widest range of cruises we have ever offered. In fact, a fleet of 22 ships will be busy next year, offering exciting itineraries and lots of new features – commented the managing director of MSC Cruises Leonardo Massa. In addition to the arrival of MSC World Europa and MSC Seascape as soon as they enter the fleet, in 2023 it will be the turn of MSC Euribia”.
Cruises 2023: the destinations not to be missed
Destinations for all tastes: from Caribbean beaches to the skyscrapers of New York where MSC Meraviglia will depart from Bermuda to the wild and untouched nature of Orkney and Shetland. The destinations to discover in this 2023 at each stopover (over a thousand expected) are many and varied. Balearics, Cyprus, Baltic capitals, the trendiest city of the moment, Haifa (Israel), the fashionable Ibiza and Mykonos, but also Japan with MSC Bellissima for 12 months a year, Emirates, Marseilles, Malta, Tunisia, the fjords of Persian Gulf, Turkey, Jordan. Italy represents the beating heart.

MSC World Europa and Euribia: the two ships powered by LNG
Biological fuels, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions up to 21% compared to the standard diet, over 99% sulfur, 85% nitrogen, and 25% carbon dioxide, also almost totally eliminating particulate emissions . These are the main steps forward made by MSC with the two LNG-powered flagships. MSC World Europe is the company’s first to be powered by liquefied natural gas. He will travel the itinerary that will stop in Genoa, Naples and Messina, and then continue to discover Valletta, Barcelona and Marseille.
In June 2023, however, MSC’s second “green” ship will be inaugurated: Euribia (a mythological name that evokes the union of land and sea) which will depart from Kiel with 7-night itineraries towards the Norwegian fjords of Hellesylt, Geirangerfjord , Alesund and Flam. Powered by biological and synthetic fuels, the emissions of MSC Euribia will be further reduced, with a view to developing innovative projects, such as the one on the study of the use of hydrogen fuel in cruise ships in collaboration with Fincantieri and SNAM, and the project pilot for the development of solid oxide fuel cell technology.
Cruises and sustainability: respect for the marine ecosystem and reduction of emissions
Can a cruise, a giant that moves on the seas, surrounded by air, water, land, be a sustainable holiday? MSC responded with a green decalogue describing the company’s ecological mission: to achieve zero impact by 2050. The pillars are the use of LNG, the cleanest fossil fuel currently available; reduction of CO2 emissions; energy saving; shore power; exhaust gas purification; separate collection and safe storage at port facilities.
Not only that, the aim is to: save water (almost all the water used on board is self-produced by desalination of sea water); Wastewater Treatment; minimizing the impact on marine life (minimizing, for example, underwater noise).
